Rafina port has been nominated as one of the 12 major ports of national importance, taking essential, complementary role to the port of Piraeus and the broader system of port of Athens.
The port of Rafina is located in the eastern suburbs of Attica. Rafina has recently been developed, since more and more ferry companies choose to start their ferry itineraries from there. It serves both passenger – tourist and freight (transport trucks), raising significant amount of traffic to the islands of the Cyclades (Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros) as well as its exclusive association with southern Evia. Lots of sail boats anchor at the port of Rafina and especially during the summer and ferry itineraries are quite frequent. Nowadays, Rafina is the second biggest port of Attica (after Piraeus).
